Rebuilding Black Wall Street
« on: July 03, 2012, 07:58:09 AM »
I would have posted this before I wanted to make sure it was going somewhere first before making it public. Rebuilding Black Wall Street is starting out as a group on Facebook. However, we have some very serious plans and are making some very real progress and on our way to creating a black business consortium. If you have a black business this is something you're going to want to be a part of. We're getting close to our first membership goal of 100 people. That's not a huge number but these are business owners.

The mission of Rebuilding Black Wall Street (RBWS) is to create an independent black economy. We're talking about economic empowerment through working together as a collective. A lot of the social struggles we go through in this country are the result of economic hardships.  When you don't have money you can't build your own schools, your own communities, police yourselves, feed yourselves, etc. As much money as you may have in your own bank account (and as much debt your creditors will allow you to pull out at once) we're not doing well as a people. You don't need to look very far to see proof of this.

I'd like to update everyone on our progress and give a couple notes about where we're headed.

First let's take a look at our overall strategy with this infographic.

Our overall strategy is about creating a natural cycle (think of water) where money flows into our community and keeps moving through it until it has to come out. We have to think about this strategically because we live in a system that isn't designed for us to prosper as a people. We can all think of how much money leaves our pockets to pay bills. We often have so many bills to pay that we don't have much left for investment in our future. We've endured economic challenges for a long time but we to work together in order to overcome them. With so much money leaving the black community we have to think strategically about how to increase the money coming in as well as the circulation of that money once it does get in. How vital is your blood? What happens if blood doesn't get to your arm, your foot, your eyes, your brain... Think about it. If we don't take control of our own economics other people will control it for us. And that blood I told you to think about? They're sucking it. Racism is different from prejudice. Racism is a race for resources and we have already lost. But since we're still here we cannot give up. This is why we're asking you to join us.

Central to all of our efforts is the blackwallstreet2.com website (BWS2.0). This website has and is being designed to be a center of global black business on the web. I will make this very simple. If you are black and have a black owned business, you need to join this site. If you are not a business owner you can still join. I'll use this thread to explain the many reasons to do so. But let's start with business.

Business:
If you have a black business this site will be especially powerful for you. It combines a business listing site, search engine, with other tools, information, and services that will help you connect to the black consumer market as well as other businesses and financial resources. Have a great idea but need money to get off the ground? Are you already in business but need to increase your exposure so that black people know about your company? By collectively joining and marketing this one website we will create a site that black people around the world will know about and can use to connect to black business. And without competition with non-black companies, if we can get black people to come to this site first then black companies will be first in line to get black business.

Company Profile
When you register your company (including non-profits) you also get a Company Profile. Think of a facebook buinsess page but better. Not only does it show your basic information but you can describe your company, and have an about us and up to 4 other named pages as well as a contact us page. It's basically a fully functioning website so anyone who doesn't have a website yet or its not up to par, you can use your company profile as a website. And you can customize it. Not only can you upload your background image and logo, but our search portal and your profile page are mobile-ready. Yep, your profile will recognize different devices and reformat itself to fit both older and newer mobile screens. So if you don't have a mobile site you can and its easy. And its FREE.

Our search engine works based on the information you submit to us when you register. Because we ask specifically for products and services we can make our search more intelligent. It's not that we're smarter than Google. We just have a different approach because we're not trying to find every site on the internet. We only want to display black owned businesses and people which is not something a "web-crawler" can find. And because we ask for specific questions we can more easily connect people looking for the products and services that you have to you. It's so easy that our search script is very short. With Google it doesn't even matter if it finds you if your website is #1023048 in the results. Trust me... no one is going to look that far. And if they do then they're looking at random and that's not how you want to be found anyway. Rank is important to business. The way we handle rank is tied into your company's business rating. This is a number assigned and managed by the BWS Business Consortium. This number is meant to be a reflection of how much a business supports the black community which could be in the form of black economics, supporting non-profits, providing needed services, etc. The higher your rating the higher you will appear in the search results, the more people will find you, and the more money you'll be able to make. So this then becomes an incentive for higher quality black goods and services and also more support for the community.

This is only the beginning...
