In White People News: J Geils Sues Former Band Members

John Geils, 66, and best known as J.Geils, the founder, and namesake of the popular 70s group the J.Geils Band is suing his former group members for planning a tour without him.
 
MSN reported that the J.Geils Band who are best known for their 1981 hit "Centerfold," first split up in 1985, with the group making several, unsuccessful attempts to reunite over the past few decades.
 
The original J.Geils band members include John Geils, Peter Wolf, and Danny Klein.
 
Geils believes that the former members should not be able to use the moniker if he's not part of the act, and has filed a lawsuit in Massachusetts.
 
He has claimed his former band mates have "planned and conspired" to exclude him from the upcoming J.Geils Band tour that is scheduled to begin on August 25.

Reuters reported that John Geils plans to legally stop his former band members from using the name, and the rights to the trademark.
Geil's lawyer state, "Together they're the J.Geils Band, but separately they're Mr. Wolf, Mr. Salwitz , Mr. Klein, and Mr. Justman. They do not have the right to take his name and use it, and try to deny him the right to use his own name."
 
An 11 concert tour has been planned without Geils as "The J.Geils Band," beginning on August 25 in Syracuse, New York.

They have fourteen albums out. But they didn't really go mainstream until "Centerfold" in 1981. After that they could never recapture the success of "Centerfold."

Good point. I happen to think FREEZE FRAME was the better song though.
