Rapper DMX has devoted his life to spirituality by becoming a church deacon.

The hip-hop star, who has been in and out of jail in recent years, has put his past problems behind him to land a position in the Christian Church.

He has been ordained as a deacon at his local ministry in New York state and hopes to give his first sermon soon.

DMX tells website Globalgrind.com, “I read the whole bible. I just (sic) been made a deacon at the church I used to go to... I would like my first sermon to be there or in Yonkers.

“The biggest step is not in the studying, reading, but the warning to change the way you live. Wanting different things for yourself, and making that change because if you still want to drink and smoke, you could read as much as you want, that doesn’t mean you’re ready.”

Jesus drank, and I'm sure he smoked the Ganja since God made it.

It's knowing when to say enough ...

I second that emotion!  He really had no anchor or guidance when he was a child...you're never too old to grow up.  I hope he stays on this positive path.

Yeah, I mean his mom just dropped him off at a group home and left him, no explanation except to say "this is where you're going to e staying..." smdh.

That is heartbreaking.  My mom's best friend's husband (who passed away this summer at age 71, RIP) had something similar happen.  His mother left him when she ran off with a man...he came home from school one day and found the house locked, empty and she was gone.  He was all of eight years old.  An aunt took him in.  It is entirely due to his strength of character that he grew up to be a wonderful man.  I miss him a lot, but he was diabetic and very ill...I wouldn't want him to suffer anymore.  I know he's okay now in the next room. :)
